The Melbourne Buddhist Centre is run by the Triratna Buddhist Community (Melbourne), formerly known as the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order (Melbourne) Incorporated.The principal purpose of our incorporated association is to advance the Buddhist religion. The Melbourne Buddhist Centre (hereafter MBC) as an organisation is exempt from the Privacy Act and the National Privacy Principles yet we take these matters seriously. This Privacy Statement describes the way that MBC respects your information.

It includes:

* How we collect, use, disclose and secure personal information;

* How you can access, correct or update your personal information;

* How to contact us about privacy.

Collection of Personal Information

We collect the data necessary to keep you informed on our activities. However, it is your choice as to how much of this information you provide.The type of information we would typically collect is:

* contact information (name, address, phone numbers, e-mail)

* areas of interest

Use of Personal Information

We use your personal information for the purpose for which it was collected, including to:

* Contact you regarding information or activities you may be interested in;

* Conduct surveys to get your view on issues or items of interest;

* Comply with legal or regulatory requirements.

Disclosure of Personal Information

We would only disclose your details to:

* Law enforcement agencies where the law requires us to do so

* To other parties, but only when you have consented for us to do so.

We will take all reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss or unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. When your personal information is no longer needed, then we will take all reasonable steps to delete or permanently de-identify it.

How to access, correct or update your Personal Information:

You may request access to the personal information that we have collected from you, by writing to our Office (see below). Upon your request, we will provide access to your personal information, except in certain circumstances as permitted under the Privacy Act. If we deny access, then we will give you reasons for this decision. We will not charge for access to your personal information, unless your request is complex. If you think that the personal information that we hold about you is incorrect or out-of-date, please contact our office (see below).
