Long Weekend retreat

Date: 5 March 2010 19:00 to 08 March 2010 16:00
Details:

A retreat exploring connections between the voice and body, silence and sound, meditation and mantra.

"Mantra" means "to protect the mind", and is an important part of Buddhist meditation and devotional practice. Chanting, internally or externally, helps us to focus the mind and deepen our faith.

On this retreat we will explore and refine our experience of mantra, through body work using principles of the Alexander Technique, vocal exercises and improvisation, and learning different mantras used within the FWBO - both simple and harmonised versions.

No experience is necessary, but knowledge of meditation would be preferable.

If you have no meditation experience, and are interested in coming, please contact the centre for more information.

Suryagita, who has recently moved to New Zealand after living in the UK for17 years, is visiting us from Wellington to share her love of chanting. She is an experienced teacher of the Alexander Technique and voice work. She will also be leading an evening at the Melbourne Buddhist Centre during her stay, and giving individual voice lessons.
